Sage Creek continues to grow with new ideas that make the community more welcoming and accessible for a range of homeowners. The homes on Fireweed Lane represent the next step in that evolution: a thoughtfully planned collection of single-family laned homes designed to bring greater attainability to one of Winnipeg’s most desirable neighbourhoods.
For this project, Qualico Communities supplied Kensington Homes with a full block of lots in Sage Creek on Fireweed Lane to test a new building approach for the first time in this community. Kensington used prefabricated wall panels, known as prefab panels, from Star Building Materials; a new construction system that significantly speeds up framing time and improves precision on site.
Prefab construction improves quality control, as the panels are assembled in a controlled environment before being transported to the site. This process ensures consistent workmanship and precision throughout each build.
The wall panel system cuts framing time by roughly 50 percent, reducing the process from about two weeks to one week per home. Across 13 homes on Fireweed Lane, that represents an estimated time savings of nearly three months. This approach helped streamline construction and improve efficiency while maintaining the high standards of quality and design Sage Creek is known for.
Developed by Star Building Materials Winnipeg, the prefab panel system was created to address industry labour shortages while increasing quality, consistency and speed in homebuilding.
This panelized wall system allowed Kensington to frame and finish multiple homes at once, reducing build times and costs without compromising craftsmanship. Even with this streamlined process, each home continues to follow Sage Creek’s architectural guidelines, ensuring a distinctive and cohesive streetscape throughout the neighbourhood.
Kensington’s home designs on Fireweed Lane focus on attainability without sacrificing style or quality. They boast thoughtful layouts, curated finishes and flexible features that make these homes appealing to a range of buyers, from first-time homeowners to families looking to grow within a vibrant and well-connected community.
The homes are designed to offer functional layouts with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. Buyers can choose between attached or detached garages to best complement their lifestyle.
This project reflects both innovation in neighbourhood design and Sage Creek’s ongoing commitment to making our community a place everyone can call home. Following its success, this approach will be used in future projects throughout Sage Creek, further supporting the vision of a thoughtfully planned, high-quality neighbourhood.
The homes on Fireweed Lane are now available. Visitors can view the project in person at Fireweed Lane and speak with Kensington Homes for more information.
