Orangetheory Fitness is coming to Sage Creek! Unit 802 of the Village Centre will be home to the 2,700 square foot fitness facility that offers high-intensity fat burning workouts in just 60 minutes.
Opening in late spring or early summer, Orangetheory offers 5-zone interval training sessions designed to produce an “afterburn” effect, which is an increased metabolic rate for 24 - 36 hours after your workout. Megan Gabert, owner of Orangetheory Sage Creek, fell in love with Orangetheory workouts back in Edmonton.
“I had been going to the YMCA close to my work during lunch hour and all I would do, really, was get on the elliptical and grab a magazine and "work out" for 45 minutes and I was wondering why I wasn't seeing any results,” says Megan. “I had heard about Orangetheory and tried it out and knew immediately it was right for me because I had a professional coach leading me through the best workout of my life. I had a busy schedule, I worked full time and I have three kids so I didn't have a lot of time to devote to fitness. I went three times per week and had the best workout each and every time I went and I saw the results very quickly.”
Orangetheory clients wear heart rate monitors so you can monitor your heart rate zones in real time. Coaches lead you through five heart rate zones to achieve 12 to 20 minutes at 84% or higher of your maximum heart rate which has been scientifically proven to produce a higher caloric burn during the workout. As Megan puts it, “You can effectively be sitting at home watching TV the day after your workout and still be burning calories at a higher level than you normally would because of the workout you completed yesterday.”
Created in 2009 by Ellen Latham from Florida, Orangetheory workouts have proven to be so popular there are now over 300 studios across North America. Endurance, Strength and Power are the pillars of the Orangetheory workout. Workouts use treadmills for Endurance, water rowers for Power, and a combination of TRX suspension, free weights, medicine balls, and other equipment for Strength.
When we asked Megan what Sage Creek residents can look forward to at Orangetheory, “They can expect to sweat!” she exclaimed. “They can expect high quality coaches and great staff who care about each member's fitness goals. We are committed to providing great customer service, a great workout, a clean and well maintained facility and fantastic staff. I'm so excited for people in southeast Winnipeg to come try the workout because I think they will love it. It will be unlike anything they've tried before. Group training is very motivating and quite addicting.”
Classes will be offered 40 to 50 times per week between 5:30 AM and 9:00 PM, and more classes will be added as memberships increase. Group training sessions can fit up to 24 people at a time. Memberships start as low as about $8 per session, depending on usage. Membership pre-sales begin April 1, 2016 in Unit 800 along Burning Glass Road, closest to the Rendezvous playground.
“Founding Members will enjoy up to 25% off regular membership pricing so it definitely pays to reserve your rate during presale and not wait until we open,” says Megan. “There is no risk to signing up during presale as members are not charged until we open and will have an opportunity to try the workout 2-3 times for free prior to our Grand Opening. We offer month-to-month memberships, a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee and a 60-day Membership Freeze option that can be used once per year.”
